The manual for ethics educators describes Robert Kegan’s stages of identity formation as they apply to professional ethical development. It includes 24 examples of essays written by 18-22 year olds that illustrate levels of identity formation. Designed first to help educators identify where the student is developmentally, it then proposes guidelines for giving developmentally appropriate feedback. By engaging students in reflective writing, with feedback, the educator hopes to promote development.
