Behavioral DIT (bDIT)
The purpose and intended usage of bDIT measure.
The bDIT is a device for activating moral schemas (to the extent that a person has developed them) and for assessing these schemas in terms of importance judgments. It has been developed based on the short version of the DIT-1 in order to enable researchers and educators to assess the development of moral reasoning within the contexts of behavioral experiments.
Although the bDIT p-score demonstrated a very strong positive correlation with the original DIT-1 p-score as reported in Han, Dawson, Thoma, and Glenn (2019, in press), the bDIT CANNOT BE A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT of the original DIT-1. The bDIT is intended for use only when use of the original DIT-1 is practically impossible or very difficult. For example, in the cases of behavioral or neuroimaging experiments that need to measure accurate response times, the original DIT-1 would not meet the aforementioned requirement, so the bDIT would be the only available option. When researchers want to examine correlations between multiple psychological indicators, the bDIT can be used to save time.
However, bDIT SHOULD NOT BE USED when examination of the development of moral reasoning is the primary purpose of a study. The bDIT does not provide full information regarding moral development (e.g., N2 score). The calculated bDIT p-score is only a crude proxy for the original DIT-1 p-score, which is a more reliable and valid indicator of moral reasoning development. For instance, if a researcher intends to examine whether a newly developed moral education program can significantly promote the development of moral reasoning, then the researcher should use the original DIT-1 or DIT-2, not the bDIT.

Provision and Cost of the Measure.
The bDIT is available to order through the Center for the cost of $50.00. The bDIT will be provided in Qualtrics format, or as a .pdf file exported from Qualtrics for those who wish to use an alternative survey platform. With an order for the bDIT, a manual will be provided which includes information about the measure, instructions for calculating the bDIT Pscore, and references.
